Seed

During the 5-30 day germination period, you will need to ensure you keep the soil constantly moist to a depth of 1 inch. This will vary depending on weather conditions and you will need to adjust accordingly.

Sod

If sod is installed in hot weather ( over 80 degrees F) Water two or three times a day for the first three to five days, then once a day for the next week to 10 days. After that, water every other day for a week, then every third day for a week.

If sod is installed in cooler weather (under 80 degrees F) change the watering schedule to twice a day for the first two days, then once a day for four days. After the first week, water every other day in week two, every third day in week three, and once every four days in week four.

Adjust the amount of water applied during the above cycles. In the beginning, apply 1/2 inch of water. As application times decrease, soak the sod with 1 inch of water during each watering period.

After two to three weeks you may pull up on the sod to see if it is firmly rooted. If no sod pulls up then you are ready to begin mowing your new lawn. (Note, do not cut more than 1/3 the blade height for the first month of mowing for best results)
